Matanzas

June 7th, 2005 · No Comments

This morning came early. Last night was such a blur. Seemed to be moving at one hundred miles and hour. We returned from the church in Pedro Betancourt to learn that there was no power at the camp. That meant no fans and no ac. Arghh. That is life in Cuba. I slept anyway.
After breakfast Roger Dale surprised us all with a mail call from the States. It seems that he arranged for some letters from friends back home! Very exciting.
I want to share with you part of a letter I got from my good friend Brandon. Brandon’s letter was full of encouragement, humor and great verses. Here are a couple that really hit the spot on this Tuesday morning.

Psalm 5:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.

This verse came after a short night of sleep and uncertain electricity supply. It spoke to me that Cuban’s live this everyday. I had almost forgotten how important it was to depend on him while in Cuba. Thanks for that letter Brandon. Many of us were brought to tears reading words of encouragement from home.
We decided to go to town this morning. Lazaro had some shopping to do and many of the folks wanted to take a look around. So we headed to town. Here is a pic of the ladies on our team in Matanzas. We had some time to just watch the city and get a feel for the town.

After seeing a bit of Matanzas, we rode up to the top of the city. It used to be the location of an amusement park and catholic church. Here is a pic of me at the old church site.
