Friday night lights

August 10th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I decided to do my weekly long run on Friday night last week. Melissa is running longer and longer runs on Saturday’s and there isn’t enough time for us both to run. So I ran Friday night. Melissa dropped me off at Dorothy and Far Hills and said “find your way back home”. I remember the squealing tires and her laugh as she and the kids sped away.

I might have taken some artistic license with that last sentence. I did run home. 6 miles worth of it. Down Dorothy Lane. Down Ackerman. Up and down Lincoln Park. Back over Ackerman. Down Stroop to Dixie. Running at dusk is a whole ‘nother matter. Dangerous without sidewalks and streetlights. But I completed the run in about 72 minutes. My standard slow and steady pace of 5 MPH. This week is a repeat of last week. 2 miles on Tuesday, Five miles on Thursday and 6 miles on Saturday.

My friend tells me that 6 miles is the mark of a long distance runner. I don’t look like a long distance runner. I don’t fell like a long distance runner. We will see how this goes. Me a long distance runner. Hmm.

Oh yea. The title. Friday night lights. Loved the t.v. show. Just watched the We are Marshall movie. Loved it.

It’s still funny to see the Friday Night Lights stuff. That hits really close to home as the school they based the book/movie and subsequent TV show on (Odessa Permian) was one of our biggest rivals growing up. Of course, they beat the tar out of us all the time. I only remember beating them once, when I was a Junior. We made it to the state playoffs that year only to be beaten by a team from Wichita Falls with a gimmicky wishbone offense…not that I’m bitter. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

BTW – I can picture your wife laughing at you as she drove away. That’s funny.
