The Endurance Sports Guy
Posted on September 30, 2008
I went to Endurance sports. Had to have my fly new kicks looked at. You see, I bought these sale rack Avias from DSW the other day and they were killing my feet. Apparently in the sport of distance running, healthy feet are a key to success. The Avia’s had this fancy pancy cantilever system. They looked like this:
So I took them to Endurance Guy. He took one look at the shoes and said something about the leaning tower of Pisa. He pointed out that the Avias had no inside support. That was causing the blistering on the insides of my feet and the sore knees. Wow. SO he had me walk barefoot. Then run with my old Saucony’s. Funny side story, I tried the exact model and size of my old Saucony’s and they fidnt dit! Strange. I thought.
Back to the Endurance Guy, I ran for him in my old shoes so he could judge my stride. Short. Slow. Enough said. He brought out some shoes and I tried two or three different ones. Each time trying them out on his world famous testing track. In the end I got a pair of these bad puppies.
With these I immediately felt relief. The feet are happy. The knees are happy. Endurance Guy set me up with a size 10 Double E. He says an extra 1/2 inch is mandatory in the toe and I am a double EE wide if he has ever seen one.
The world is now a better place. I still sport some blue retro, vintage, old school basket ball shorts to run in, under armor sleeveless t and wicking sleeveless t over the UA. Its all good.
Apparently if the feet are happy, the calves, knees and quads are happy. We’ll test that with an uphill battle this weekend.

.88 and blisters
Posted on September 29, 2008
So. I haven’t posted in a while. Not witness relocation, just the perfect storm against blogging. In short, I started a new job this month, lost power for 6 days, bought new running shoes and took about a week off of running.
But..here is the update..I missed only one long run. It was supposed to be an 8 miler and I did a bit over three. I wasn’t feeling it.
Last night I put the new shoes back on, used some vaseline in the sensitive areas of my feet and set off for a 9 miler. 9.12 to be exact. My goal was 12 minute miles and I completed it with three new blisters, two of which were on top of two old ones. I also did the run at an 11:38 pace. Very happy with the result. Today I am going to see the running shoe expert at Endurance Sports in Sugarcreek Township. I am taking my new shoes and old shoes and some cash. I hopefully will come out with some idea of what is going on.
This weeks running schedule, 2, 7, 2 and 9 again.
Next week is 3,8,3 and 10.
The 10 will be Sunday the 12th. My long runs are on Sunday evenings. The 19th is the half marathon.

Burnt burgers, 7 miles and fantasy football
Posted on September 1, 2008
What a busy weekend. 1o mile canoe trip with some buddies and their kids. Cookout at the lake afterwards on Saturday evening. Rest on Sunday, a 3 hour nap! 7 mile run on Sunday night and shaved 3 minutes and 40 seconds off my time. 7 mile run at an 11:25 pace. My best time for that distance so far. My 5k time on that run was a bit under 34 minutes. Felt good after the run, but not good enough to run the 5k this morning.
I have both my drafts complete for the two fantasy football leagues. I am optimistic after each draft but only time will tell.
Enjoyed the Dragon’s game today as they closed their season and start the playoffs tomorrow. It was hot. Then back to the house for some burgers and dogs on the grill. A busy weekend for sure. New job starts on Wednesday, but have a short visit to the office tomorrow. More on that later.
