City Council
Posted on November 25, 2008
Recently my friend Peggy Lehner was elected to Ohio’s House of Representatives. With that election she has resigned her seat on Kettering’s city council.
Last week I formally applied to the city seeking the appointment to fill her unexpired term. If any of you, those that pray, should find time to do so, please pray on this one. This is something that I have pursued continually since summer of 2005. Remember, for those of you in Rio Linda, I ran for this very seat. I lost in a 6 way race, for two seats, coming in 3rd place by less than 2% of the vote.
I will keep you updated. For those of you that have written letters and offered support, thank you.

fatherhood and 5k’s
Posted on November 9, 2008
Today, Caleb, my oldest at age 8, and I ran the Springboro YMCA 5k. Funny enough, he was the youngest runner and I was the largest runner. He did great. His first mile was a sub 10 minute miler. Then he had two consecutive 11 mile runs. He had a great final time of 32:13. That rocks. It was so cold. I finished just 2 seconds behind him. I was not losing, I was simply drafting to save energy. All the marathoners do it.
That actually is my best 5k time. Having only had two 5k runs, it isn’t a huge milestone. But it is over 2 minutes better than my 5k back in May. I have some serious training to do before the Miamisburg Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. It is a five miler and I want a time under 55 minutes.
Proud dad here.

Audience Question

Everyone always seems to want to know what’s on the iPod of an Olympic athlete. I’d say running the 1/2 marathon qualifies you. So, what do you say? What are you listening too as you run? What’s on your iPod?
Well Joe, a lot of time and attention goes into the details of the preparation of an endurance athlete like myself. I am laughing on the inside following the end of that sentence. So, my iPod. A very eclectic, diverse, genre spanning, 3 decade covering sampling of the music that makes me tick. I have to admit, almost every song takes my mind somewhere else. College, High school, friends, vacations, beaches, mountains, long hikes, days in solitude and days of celebration. I couldnt possibly explain it all. Trust me. This list worked. Wifey and I both carry the small iPod shuffle, so these play in no particular order.
I have listed the list below the fold.
