The Flying Pig

Looks like I am going to run the 1/2 Marathon in Cincinnati this year. Sunday May 3, is the day. I will begin writing about my training when I get started in mid January. My goal. Faster than the 11:59 pace I had in Columbus back on October. Goal 2. Lose the weight I lost this summer and gained post Columbus 1/2. Goal 3. Decide for good that I like running.

Kettering Council

For my three readers, as I guessed weeks ago, Amy Schrimpf was selected to fill Peggy’s vacancy. Even though members of council stated they wanted to pick a woman, I really thought I had a chance.
Apparently not.
I will make a decision in January whether to accept the Mayor’s advice and run against his recent appointment and Frank Spolrich as he suggested in our phone call today.
I will keep you posted.

Turkey Trot

I did it. My first 5 mile race. Apparently running is a lot like organic chemistry. If you don’t practice your skills you are likely to look stupid during the exam. But I digress, I ran this 5 mile race on Thanksgiving morning. 8:00 a.m. and 21 degrees F. Crazy running conditions.
It was a hard five miles. Not my best time, my training runs over the summer were minutes better. But, I have now done the trifecta, 5k, 5 miler, 1/2 marathon.
76th out of 127 in my division. Clydesdale B, that is for men over 225#. I barely made this division.
Placed 2254th out of 2829 male runners. Final time was 59:03, an average pace of 11:49 per mile. I call it a victory because I didn’t walk or hurt anyone.
Since this was the 30th anniversary of this race, we all got medals for finishing.

It is really amazing how many people you see that you know when you run this race. For the last 3 years I have watched from the warmth of my car with coffee and the kids. Actually joining the 6000 other folks is kinda fun.
